About the Black Tie Jazz Orchestra:

Whether it’s gala events, ballrooms full of dancers or live radio, The Black Tie Jazz Orchestra does it all with a pitch-perfect style and the top music from the 20’s through the 40’s.

The tuxedoed musicians bring the Great American Songbook to life with arrangements from Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Ellington, Miller, Dorsey and many more, just as it was heard at the Savoy and Avalon Ballrooms and across the nation on live radio.

Leader Kim Venaas comes to this music and this profession from a long family history with Big Band and Swing music and delights in sharing this great American heritage with each and every audience including his “60-Second Dance Lessons” that, because of their quick nature, are especially popular with the gentlemen!

The Black Tie Jazz Orchestra has performed for enthusiastic crowds at New Year’s Eve with the San Francisco Symphony, Great American Music Hall, Bimbo’s, every hotel ballroom in the City, and was a big favorite with San Francisco columnist Herb Caan who called them “That great swinging band”.

Black Tie has appeared on film in the movie “Swing”, on numerous live radio shows, and with Broadway legend Carol Channing for whom Leader Venaas was her conductor and musical director.

All this results in a fun and thoroughly entertaining evening of music and dance!
